Pelynt Children’s Centre,
Summer Lane, Pelynt, Looe, Cornwall
Registered Charity No. 103 0591
Historically the Pre-School has been running since the 1970s. It was originally run by a group of mums in Pelynt Village Hall and in 2010 were fortunate to be able to move to a purpose built building for the care and education of the young children of Pelynt and surrounding areas. This building is modern, bright and spacious for the children to learn and be creative.
In 2017 the Pre-School officially merged with Pelynt Primary Academy.
All our staff shares a wealth of experience and knowledge and are motivated to offer the best environment for your children.
Parents are children’s most important teachers and practitioners work with them. Children learn through play and by becoming involved in activities. Learning occurs in social groups and the setting is a learning community for children and families.
We pride ourselves in being true to our aim of providing a warm, friendly learning environment for children and their families.
We have very close links with the Reception Class and have a good transition set up in the Summer Term for those starting school in September. Our staff work closely with the school's EYFS Lead who regularly visits.
At snack times, we offer a variety of healthy snacks for your children, and encourage healthy lunch boxes. We cater for any special dietary requirements that children and families may have and offer detailed information about the foods we are offering.
Emma Hickman – Supervisor-NVQ 4 Children’s Care, Learning and Development
I have been a Supervisor at Pelynt Pre-School for 12 years after starting a year earlier. I love being creative and I enjoy gardening at home, which I share with the children at Pre-School. The part of my role I love the most, is showing the children new experiences and watching them develop ready for Primary School.
Samantha Crosby – Deputy/ SENCO – CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Work force (QCF)
I was a Nanny and a children’s swim teacher before I started working in a preschool setting back in Hampshire in 2010, 3 years later I moved to Cornwall and in 2014 started at Pelynt.
Louise Westacott - Nursery Assistant - Qualified PGCE - joined Pre-school in 2018. I love working with children, especially this age group. Singing and dancing with the children is a real joy to me! I have 4 girls at home and love getting outdoors to ride our horses or walk the dog. I am also Chair of the School/Pre-school Fundraising Committee.
Charlotte Milford - Nursery Assistant
"Pelynt Pre-School have worked hard with other professionals to develop a learning environment in which our son can socialise, dance, play and learn despite his physical difficulties. Since being at Pelynt pre-school he has just blossomed. I can thoroughly recommend this family-like environment and all of the friendly and caring staff. “
“Pelynt pre-school has been & continues to be a fantastic place for my daughter to attend. The set up is small but well equipped and offers a safe place for me to send my daughter. The staff are all very professional & extremely welcoming when I enrolled my daughter. I’ve since joined the committee & have become involved more with this fantastic pre-school. I would highly recommend Pelynt pre-school to anyone who was looking for a placement for their child to feel safe, have fun & grow in confidence just as my child has”.
“My children have attended Pelynt Pre-School for two years now and we have never experienced anything but friendly professionalism, constructive help and advice, and a great sense of fun and learning. The team have been invaluable in helping achieve goals I have found especially difficult when raising twins. ie Potty training, communication, development and discipline. My children love their time at school, and the progress they are making is a joy to watch. I especially enjoy tracking their achievements through the regular updates made to their ‘Smile File’. My children have strong bonds with their teachers and have mad so many friends. I am very happy with Pelynt Pre-School and we will be sad to say goodbye in July!”

Government funding is available for all 3 and 4 year olds from the term after their birthday, and funding may be obtained in some circumstances via the Family Information Service.
For those children not receiving funding the current charges will be £4.80 per hour, this includes the lunch hour.
A charge will have to be made if your child is away for any reason, including sickness
This payment reserves your child’s place at Pre-school and must be paid at all times.
We will invoice you at the beginning of each half term. If you would like to make other arrangements or would rather have invoices more regularly please talk to a member of staff.
Pelynt Pumpkins Baby & Toddler Group is a friendly group which runs every Wednesday (term time only), 9am-11am in the room adjacent to the Pre-School classroom.
Pumpkins is run by several parents who have children attending the group. A small donation of £1.00 can be made per child in order to contribute to a healthy snack for the children, refreshments for parents and activities for all to enjoy.
Each week a structured activity is undertaken to encourage the child’s development.
- Arts & Crafts
- Experimenting with new textures
- Planting seeds & much more
It's a great opportunity for children to interact and an even better opportunity for parents too.
